Emperor's Seaside Resorts
More information about the Emperor's seaside resorts. Due to long isolation during the Cold War, the region
was not spoiled by full blown capitalism. The beaches, forests and parks are open to all, and there are few
trespassing restrictions. Hence, the island is like a get-away into a different place in time, and truly unique.

In the old days, the island was a popular destinations for members of German Naturmensch, FKK, Wandervogel,
Lebensreform movements, which are linked to American naturists, nature boys and 1960s hippies. Those links
are strong; though not well known. Visit the link below to learn more

There are many charming small towns and villages on the island such as Koserow (Coserow) where
Otto Niemeyer-Holstein, a famous German artist used to live. You can visit his studio (atelier) there,
which was turned into a museum dedicated to his art.

The Amber Witch was also written in Koserow; possibly in 17th-century, and published by Wilhelm Meinhold
in 1838. Its German title is Maria Schweidler, die Bernsteinhexe.
